Dueling Lemons

I am not sure who is going to be more worn out by this act, Miss Indigo Blue, Leroi the Girl Boi or YOU the audience?

The Lemon Act is the most High-energy act in “House of Thee UnHoly”  and these ladies will squeeze very ounce of energy out of themselves, their lemons, each other and you before their act is through.

Both these lovelies came to the show with their own versions of “The Lemon Song” that they had been performing as solos. I invited them to combine their acts for “House of Thee UnHoly #2″ and they have been performing it ever since when possible (they live on different coasts). Indigo created her’s for Ellen Forney‘s book release “I Heart Led Zepplein”, Leroi created hers to compete at The Burlesque Hall of Fame.

Together they bring a new twist to their individual acts and have created a Feral Off The Hook 6 minute and 20 second act that will leave you wet!  Don’t be a sour puss come see this “Dueling Lemon Act” at  The Triple Door September 23-25 ! Buy Tickets !

“An evening of Glamour, History, Sizzling Hot Ladies and Celluloid”, Seattle debut performance of Britain’s Crown Jewel of Burlesque - Immodesty Blaize and West Coast Premiere of the documentary “Burlesque Undressed”.

Seattle’s Hottest Traditional Burlesque Show of 2010! A Full on Celebration of Femininity!

The Film Burlesque Undressed” @ 7:00 PM

Burlesque has shimmied itself into the mainstream ever so slyly that now even Cher and Christina are hopping on the bump and grind wagon! But before Hollywood goes all mainstream with their interpretation of the Art of Burlesque, there are now quite a few documentaries on the subject from different view points and perspectives that you should make yourself familiar with starting with “Burlesque Undressed” Directed and written By Allison Grist is a great addition to this growing genera in film and is a loving look into the history, costumes, the current bombastic explosion of Burlesque, with historical film clips and interviews with costumers, historians and several of the beautiful and original Ladies of Golden Era of Burlesque including Joan Arline.

British Reviews about ” Burlesque Undressed”;

“This curiously innocent little British movie is a celebration of the revival of the art of the striptease artist” Phillip French – The Observer

“Cheerfully entertaining” Peter Bradshaw – The Guardian

“Warm, celebratory, cheeky, glamorous and revelatory” – ODEON

The Show @ 8:45PM

This is my only full on traditional Burlesque Show of the year and it is all High Glitz, Glamour and Sex Appeal, it may very well be the sexiest show of the year to hit the Triple Door stage. This is the only show that can boast having 3 Internationally renowned Miss Exotic World title holders and a Living Legend of Burlesque in one night!

The show stars Miss Exotic World 2007 - Immodesty Blaize “Britain’s Crown Jewel of Burlesque” – the hottest British import since Marc Bolan and she is 100% W.O.M.A.N ! Immodesty will have you wiggling in your seats with her Bombshell Va Va Voom and Sass, her costumes as stunning and unless you are planning a trip to London anytime soon this is your only opportunity to drool and see her in the flesh …. in Seattle.

Miss Exotic World 2004 Miss Dirty Martini, is the walking definition of Burlesque, she definitely is tapped into the era of her fore mother Jenny Lee “Miss 44 and Plenty More” just like Lee she is the consummate crowd pleaser. Dirty has been making quite the International splash with performance all over the planet, including film rolls and recently was featured in a fashion spread shot by Karl Lagerfeld for V Magazine! The World Premier of her own film “Dirty Martini and The New Burlesque” is at SIFF Cinemas March 29th.

Just added to the line up is Miss Exotic World 1992 & 1994 Catherine D’Lish there is a reason why this Sex Pot Red Head is a two time winner and we all winners as she recently moved to Seattle. Miss D’Lish is known for her classic Strip Tease and over the top elaborate costumes and oozes like I said S.E.X. and had more titles under her shimmy belt than any other gal working in Burlesque today.

Living Legend of Burlesque Joan Arline “The Sexsquire Girl” now in her 70′s is just finished up her roll as “Electra” in a stage production of Gypsy at The Palm Canyon Theater. She has been in the business of Burlesque since her early 20′s. The Sexquire Girl is known as a walker , her performance is elegant and stunning and remarkably performing in one of her original costumes this evening.

All four of these ladies are in the film “Burlesque Undressed”.

To round out the night are Seattle’s own shakers and movers of The Seattle Burlesque scene Miss Indigo Blue and Miss Inga Ingénue , who both will be performing tribute acts to ladies of yore Wild Cherry and Sally Rand. Hosting the show is The Swedish Housewife.

10:00PM – Meet the Stars, buy some glamourous 8X10′s, DVD’s and get your autographs.

I am so excited for this show next week, and I sure hope you can make it as we stumble down memory lane at The Triple Door next week.

This was an interesting show to book as I cast a big net by sending out e-mails to most of the performers I have worked with over the last 21 years. There have been several incarnations of the show you will see next week, many of the acts I pursued were not available for this date as they are out touring around the planet, or had planned a much needed vacation, or had family emergencies and had to cancel, but I am most satisfied with how it all came together.

You will be the first audience to see El Vez’s work in progress “A Tribute To John Sex”.
He is in the midsts of developing a full length one man show about the Boylesque 80′s Icon John Sex, Sex was the first show I produced as The Swedish Housewife in 1987, at The Vogue on 1st Avenue.

Miss Astrid and I decided that the show should be run in chronological order and I think you will see that I have a pretty distinct esthetic that I am consistently attracted to. I see many parallels in my programing over the years and hope that the performers will see who there counter parts are, and that the newer ones will see how they are a continuum of those esthetics.

I must confess that when I book a show I am very selfish and book what thrills me. Granted I have a very diverse appetite.
I really appreciate that Dina Martina is willing to come all they way back to Seattle from her summer retreat in Provincetown to be part of this one night folly. It is rare that one gets to see her in a collective show these days, as we are so used to seeing her in her one woman extravaganzas that have literally been thrilling the world. She was quite the hit in London this spring.

For a little fishing village… Seattle has so many amazing performers and I am delighted to have the opportunity to provide a whole new crop of talented Northwest acts the pleasure of being on The Triple Door stage.

Please come out to support the reasons I get out of bed in the morning, El Vez as John Sex with Miss Indigo Blue, Kathleen Hunt and Triadic Breast, Dina Martina, Armitage Shanks reads Steven Jesse Bernstein, Lily Verlaine, Ernie Von Schmaltz, The Naked Folk Singer, Waxie Moon, Queen Shmooquan, Iva Handful with Ultra and Nanda!

Wow! Two and a half weeks ago I had more energy than some twenty year old male hopped up on Red Bull and testosterone, and for the last week I have been sick sick sick sick and I am sick sick sick sick of it!

I had to cancel my participation in my weekly show at The Pink Door this last Saturday and beg off of attending Teatro Zin Zani with my friend Robert, Dina Martina at The Rendezvous with Blake, Big Wheel Bingo at Re-Bar, and Genderlicous, just to name a few. I did manage to lay in my living room and watch “Battle Star Galactic” season one and first half of season two, and Camille. How I love Greta!

So, the scary part is that I am making my singing debut with Orchestra La Pow! tomorrow night and I have a head and chest cold. Yikes!!!! I need some Divine Intervention on this one. Please!

The show should be a lot of fun! The band is sounding great and needless to say Miss Indigo Blue, Babette La Fave, Lily Verlaine and Ruby Slipper, will turn it out. Kaleb will be making a cameo as will our dear friend Ben Ireland.

In the mean time between sleeping for hours and hours and hours, I made an appearance on Sex Life Live last Tuesday night, and have been working on producing Seattle’s first Burlesque Social April 4th, The Big Exotic World Fundraiser April 5th, The Exotic World Friday Night Meet and Greet May 26th, The Exotic World Pageant May 27th, booked The Pink Door through the end of May. This is a week off sick at home. Oh, I did slip out of the house for a band practice twice. I must be nuts!

Well, that is it for my public bitch session.
Hope to see you soon!

Vegas is HOT!

Dear Diary,

Vegas is HOT!

It is a good primer for what lay ahead Barstow and Burlesque in the Mojave Desert. I spent three and a half days sleeping on Joey Aria’s fold out bed in his suite away from home (NYC). I was exhausted! As I am certain you can imaging from my last post. I slept a LOT!!!! Between sleeping I had dinner with Joey at Hamada a great Japanese Restaurant, and lunch at Cozumel, as usual Joey and I shared at least one Mexican meal, he’s the one who has taught me how to eat spicy food. After lunch, I dropped off some Exotic World Posters at a shop, and continued to work on the Friday Night Meet and Greet with the most challenging internet access one can imagine. Thanks to many friends who will remain nameless to protect them from corporate punishment for sharing their accounts, I was able to retrieve and send e-mail is a most curious and hobbled together fashion.

So, if I was not sleeping and sleeping and drinking lots and lots of water, I was spending time talking to Classic Burlesque Stars and Legends on the phone pounding out the final details for the Friday night event. For me is was all too thrilling to be calling on the likes of Tura Satana, Kiva, Kitten Natavidad ,Bambi Sr., and Liz Renay. I had been speaking with them from Pennsylvania, NYC, and now from Vegas over the last few weeks, my phone bill will convert these minutes into dollars (ouch!). The show was falling into place, I just needed a great stage manager and to stop performers from the usual pre show shenanigans! Now I just had to figure out how I was going to get El Vez from the Ontario airport to Barstow and set up for the show at the same time.

Joey secured tickets for myself, Scott Ewalt and Jeff Gardener to go see him in Zumanity . You see my dear friend Joey Arias has landed the job as the emcee in show that is described as the “darker side” of Cirque Du Soleil, and they could not have made a better choice. In the course of the show I saw him be everything and everyone I know him to be, a ringleader, diva, provocateur, jester, seductress, harpy, and vixen! Well, actually he is a lot more than that, but how great to see him being himself in his best gender fuck expression, in a multi million-dollar show, designed by Thierry Mugler! And all in front of Middle America! I never thought Joey would be performing to the Mid Western and Southern audiences but he is, and they LOVE him! How Joey ended up being the Barney of Gender Fuck is more that I can answer, and I say gender fuck because he is beyond drag and is a She Monster unto himself. (This being said in the most loving and caring way). I could so easily go on and on about Joey Aria.. I was sad that he didn’t really sing in this show as he is an amazing vocalist, but the show was beautiful and there were several mind-blowing acts. The costumes needless to say were astounding and the lighting was superb.

After the show we went to a birthday party for one of the cast members to a place called the Champagne Bar, from the name one would assume that one was going to be in a very posh and swanky place but indeed we were in a very fab and authentic old Vegas dump with gold and red-flocked wallpaper and old posters of Marilyn (Monroe) on them. People smoke too much in Vegas and are allowed to, and it bugs me. I hate smoking, I used to smoke and I am OVER it. I met many performer people who work with Joey and in other shows and have all grown quite fond of Joey, I am happy to know that he has developed a very nice community of friends during his two-year stint (this far) in the heat of the desert. It was 4:30 and the party was in full swing and I was beat, I asked Elliot if he would give me a ride home as I was tired and needed to take a nap; as my friend Miss Indigo Blue would state it. Well, a nap is about all it amounted to, as I had to get up and take care of a few more logistics as today was the day I was heading to Barstow.

I had some hair-brained idea that I was going to take the Greyhound bus to Barstow. Some romantic notion that was better as a daydream than a reality. I thought that planning ahead and purchasing a ticket before was smart! I was told to arrive and hour before my departure, I arrived earlier actually. The scene I arrived to was classic, some drug addict in withdrawal or just plain old OD’ed right in front of the station and an ambulance pulling up to assist. I had just been joking about that to the taxi driver just before we arrived at the station, I had said “Just watch! It will be me the meth addicts, transients, game losers and seasonal farm workers at the station.” That will teach me to create my own reality!!!! Anyway so I manage to get out of the taxi with my three bags (despite the four boxes I have already sent back to Seattle over the last three and a half weeks). I end up standing in line to get my actual ticket, you know the one I already purchased so smartly and to check my two bags. So much for saving time, I stand in line for over an hour speaking to two very nice 60 year old Korean ladies who were visiting from San Francisco who tell me all about migrating to the states in the 60′s and how shocked they were by American life when they arrived and lived in the Haight!

Finally the front of the line. Only to be told I have to go stand in yet another line and that I must take my bags with me, and the bus leaves in 5 minutes. That is when I realized that the line I saw when I came in over an hours ago, are all people waiting for the same bus I am taking, and they too are holding prepaid tickets. The boarding starts in a mass of confusion and people are running and jumping over each other’s suitcases, children are being separated from their parents, and it makes me think of footage I saw of people trying to get out of Saigon the night before the collapse. The bus driver slams shut this weird security door, the likes of which I have never seen, something out of a cattle shoot, and the driver says “the bus is full!”

Next scene people fighting swearing. Oh God, I am one of them! Driver jumps back on bus, puts bus in reverse without closing the baggage compartments, baggage falling out, but taking off anyway, my finger jabbing in a man’s chest the man who is unfortunately for him wearing a greyhound shirt and the words “This is Fucked UP” coming out of my mouth. A more than agitated phone call later to the executive producers of Miss Exotic World (Laura and Luke ) try to help me trouble shoot, it is evident I must rent a car. Too much heat, too much baggage, and a really bad mood, and I must find a taxi in the worst part of town 45 minuets I mean minutes later I am in a taxi back to the hotel where I started; a very kindest and efficient concierge helps me find a great rate on a one-way rental from Vegas to LA. I am on the road and in a much better mood. Thank God!

2 hours and a few minutes, later I am in Barstow!

As Greyhound has no information on where to direct complaints on their sight, I suggest…
