Hello! My mother, Gay Dawn, began her career as a feature burlesque dancer in Seattle and went on to star in the movie, “Everybody’s Girl” where she developed her signature routine of removing her black stockings and garter belt on top of a red satin revolving table.
She performed for fifteen years until she was stalked after leaving The El Rancho Theater in Los Angeles and almost murdered. Her injuries forced her into retirement but she moved to Alaska and loved doing occasional guest “appearances” for special occassions and her six-foot marque sits proundly over my front door to greet visitors.
I have Lily St.’s green satin robe in my closet along with my mother’s gown and my grandmother’s madam dress.
My daughter, Serina Dawn, performs with her own band and is in the process of putting a book together about her grandmother’s career.
It just shows that Burlesque is ageless!

Hi Leslie,

I’m not 100% sure what was Jesse’s last show at Galleria Potatohead, but I had booked a show with him at the gallery October 1991 “One Night Only”, and that was the show he was not able to do as he has moved on from out reality. I turned into a Memorial Cabaret. I’ll go into my files and find the poster and scan it. Bill Moore might know more about Jesse’s actual last show there. Sorry I can’t be of any more help.
