Dear Earthlings,

I hope this transmission finds you well. Since my landing on your Blue Planet January 15th at Mezzo Lunatico, The Moon Maiden Stardust , Earth Probe DD Sputnik and I have been exploring your Green Village by the water, we find you quite humorous and are puzzled by your obsession with Love and the rituals that come with it. We do not understand the connection of grooming toe nails and going out. What is the connection with St. Valentine and your emotion Love? The information we have gathered about this day tells us about killing wolves in Rome and the killing of Italian men with guns in Chicago on this day. Are Italian men wolves? We will further investigate this topic on February 19th with the next specimens we have collected from the time capsule we found in our crater on on home Moon.

Happy Jul to You All!

I’m sure your bellies are full and hope that you are currently surrounded by your favorite family and friends, celebrating in the manner you prefer. I captured these images in front of the Teatro ZinZanni Tent waiting in line for Mezzo Lunatico’s ~ El Vez “Merry X-Mas Show” where he put The X back into X-Mas. These lovely ladies are The Carol Brunettes who won the Great Figgy Pudding Street Corner Caroling Competition this year , an annual event held in Our Little Fishing Village that benefits the Pike Place Senior Center & Downtown Food Bank.  I was chilly and laughing at their awesome rendition of “Reindeer Rhapsody” so the shots are a little blurry but what the heck! Better than nothing!  And I hate flash and they were emoting Holiday Cheer!

Dixie Evans

The Gypsy Rose Lee Centennial Celebration just got a little more exciting as Dixie Evans herself will be attending our event in honor of Seattle born Legend of Burlesque  Gypsy Rose Lee,  which is also a fundraiser for The Burlesque Hall of Fame.

For those of you not in the know, Dixie Evans is the Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque who built her career as The Stripping Marilyn. Dixie has been carrying the torch of The Exotic World Museum founded by the deceased Jenny Lee and Jenny’s late husband Charlie. Dixie and The Museum left the decaying goat ranch in Helendale, CA back in 2006 and has been trying to find a permanent home for the Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada since then.

Many of us in the Burlesque community call Dixie Grandma and I am delighted that our Burly Grandma will finally be visiting us, as I have tried for years to have her come to our little fishing village which she performed in back in her heyday! Who knows maybe she even performed at The Embassy Theater ( now The Triple Door) back in the day? Or what memories will be sparked when she comes to visit? I am sure one gentleman will be thrilled to meet her in person, that would be Joe Elder,  please read his sweet  story  HERE

But more on this all soon! I have to clean house for the Holidays and then head out into the night for Santarchy and Mezzo Lunatico !

Autumn is here in all it’s Orange! Yellow! And Red Beauty!                                                                                                                                                                                  The curtain of multilayered grey and rain is falling upon us as we quickly move towards that season where families gather and feasts are made. I don’t know about the rest of you, but the holidays have always been a source of stress and anxiety for me, so I love to focus on something else… and what could be a better diversion than putting ones love and effort into the supportive and caring organization Treehouse, who do so much for children in the greater Seattle area who live in Foster Care.

This is the second year that I have encouraged my peers in the performing and music community to join me in doing what we can to reach out to the young creative souls in our region. We may not be able to foster these young people on a daily basis with roofs over their heads or with food in their mouths, but I am delighted we can foster their creative beings with the humble and mostly anonymous gift of a semester or dance music class.

It feels very personal or is it intimate, to reach out and support or inspire creativity in a young human who may very well feel alone or isolated in a world where so much is unknown. Fostering a creative skill could provide a young person with a foundation within this young human that exists nowhere else, and be a comfort, as we could never understand. So the long and short of it is please come out and support our fundraiser at The Triple Door next week in what ever way you can.

I am currently working on facilitating a gifting program of instruments or the donation of teaching skills to the Little Wishes Program that directly addresses the creativity of these young people in our community who live in Foster Care. If this is of interest to you please write me via paula@swedishhousewife.com so I can help direct your contribution of equipment or your very valuable time to the correct channels. Please research Treehouse as there are many opportunities to support this wonderful organization.

I want to thank in advance my fellow participants in this years event, Kurt Bloch, Jim and Johnny Sangster, Carmella, Drew Church, The Basements, The Shanghai Pearl, Annabella Kirby and Lushy, Maggie Savarino, Kaleb Hagen-Kerr and The Witness, Martha Enson, Belle Cozette, Ernie Von Schmaltz, Iva Handfull, Barbra Ireland, Mark Pickerel, Heather Mayhew, Lydia McLane, Liz Cortez, Wiggy Stardust, Gil Bar-Sela, Bertie! and of course The Triple Door!!!

My dear friend Barbara Ireland created the image that you are looking at when she was … 16? 17?

I don’t’ remember, but the point is that because of this poster I met her 30 or so years ago!  I saw it on a phone pole and was intrigued by the image and was drawn from my suburban Hell to the depths of Seattle to attend this event, where I met her and one of my many loves Ben, her brother.

How do we meet people? What brings us to them? Graphics are a powerful tool that convey so much and can speak to us on deep levels or simple convey information. I have always felt strongly about graphics, I studied them at The Cornish Collage of Arts. They are a language in and of themselves. For me it is more than the WHO? WHAT? WHERE? WHEN?  Important things yes, But!

I have met some of the most exciting musicians and artist in Seattle …and the World for that matter from Graphics!  I am grateful to have worked with so many amazing graphic designers, some are self-taught some are professionally trained. What matters to me is the language they speak, and I’ve had a few pretty great conversations going on for a while….

Check out my …on going, growing and improving on a daily basis poster page.

This Friday Night you will find me in Georgetown… and  I will be a Twisting and a Frugin, as The Soul Hole throws down with a “Summer BBQ Edition” at The Georgetown Ballroom. 7 sets of music to be played by DJ’s: Greg Vandy, Miss Lilli, Nipper, Cruddy, Self-Administered Beatdown, Chilly and Johnny Horn, with a live music by my all time favorites The Basements. All this for only $5!
If that don’t make you wanna jump up and dance nothing will!   If the party gets to crowded we will just have to do the Cavern Stomp!

Photo of The Week

Riding home late night in a Crown Black Car

I Love Vinyl!

And it may surprise you to learn that I’m not talking clothes….but records! They are a perfect shape, pleasing to hold, the ideal dimensions for creating artwork, but what I love the most about Records? Is the warm sound that emanates from them. Since the age of 16 I’ve had DJ friends and prior to that was an avid record buyer. Yes! I belonged to a bunch of record clubs but Capitol Records is the one that stands out. I coveted records! My mothers Santana and Herb Alpert Records when I was 9 and when my parents divorced when I was 12, I tried hiding my fathers Tom Lehrer records from him as I hated to see them go (after he died three years ago I was quite happy to get them back.) Maybe it’s my love for records that I’ve had so many DJ friends and dated so many DJ’s. I also love to dance and historically the dance floor is where I have met some of my best friends and favorite people in the world. I spent a majority of my youth attending dance classes and then clubs as soon as I could pass the age limit to get in.

It’s really exciting that so many of my DJ friends are going back to spinning Vinyl and that shops like Wall of Sound exisit. I love walking up Pine Street and looking in their window to see the latest display of record covers. Often the album covers trigger off a bunch of memories and I get lost in my head remembering. As I get older I realize there is so much I have filed deep into these cabinets in my brain that it is so welcome to have these memories jostled loose and come back in full color, photographs can do that too, but music usually adds a whole sensory aspect to these remembrances that go beyond the visual.

I was very excited last week when I learned of Scott Giampino’s new night “Kings Of The Vinyl Frontier” and look forward to their next event. BTW Soul Hole is having a big blow out in Georgetown Summer “Soul Hole on July 30th not sure of the venue.

Wow what an amazing 72 hours of performance and it is only the 14th of March and there are 2 more shows that haven’t even opened yet.

It is that moist time of year here in the Little Fishing Village otherwise known as Seattle, that for the last 6 years has inspired the yearly Moisture Festival of which I have been a participant of for 5. It is also the annual pilgrimage of Trixie Little and The Evil Hate Monkey to the PNW that had become the beacon of light at the end of that long grey tunnel announcing the that spring is truly on it’s way.

Wednesday was the opening night Gala for The MF at ACT and it was packed, the audience was eager and LOUD, we (Trixie, The Monkey, Kalita, and Lily Verlaine) were fashionably a little ..too late so we missed the first 40 minutes of the show but once we got in our seats, were delighted by Godfrey, The Bobs, Sally Pepper on a Cloud Swing, The Valone Sisters working the Lyra, and yes of course the astounding NANDA debuted a new act , who never fail to bring down the house and break every heart simultaneously. The after party couldn’t help but feel like a family reunion and love fest.

Thursday night was the kick off of Burlesque shows titled “Libertease Burlesque” which were censored out of Hales Brewery after our debut into the festival 5 years ago and why I can honestly say I was “Banned in Ballard” and as The Swedish Housewife I find that highly entertaining . As I know just about every act that was in this show I had to go back even though I should have stayed home and worked on my acts for The MF and “Through the Looking Glass” that opens March 24 at The Triple Door, I’m the Mad Hatter!

Any way the show opened with The Moistettes a bevy of hot broads working boas and bumping away beautifully, Sydni Deveraux performed her beautiful “Obama Act” that brings tears to my eyes every time I see it. Sydni has grown so much as a performer over the last year, clearly she has been working hard on her stage skills and the crowd definitely appreciated these efforts and rightly adored her. Lily Verlaine was the definition of SEXY HOTTNESS and had every man and woman sweating under the collar in her rendition of Summer Time, Trixie Little and The Evil Hate Monkey performed a double-double trapeze act that was fantastic, pompous, and excellently executed!!!!!! As Kalita was shaking her moneymaker a voice from behind commenting on her behind was heard saying “Oh Please, Don’t Stop !!!!” The Bellini Twins were out of control hilarious.

God this show was great!!! And I’m not even half way through this astoundingly fabulous line up! Yikes!!!! SO not for lack of their amazingness but a desire to keep this short everyone was fantastic and at their best and I have Civic and Community Pride written up one side and down the other. Miss Indigo Blue shined with her “ Triple Fan Dance” coy, smart, teasing, classic and clever, The Aerialistas count em 10, Yes 10 hot sassy lassies all on stage at one time, seducing the ropes and creating a Cloud Swing in a most imaginative and un imaginable way, and Hell Ya! Waxie Moon dishing out “American Woman”, I really could go on and on and on and Oh yes NANDA….. There really is a reason why they use all capital letter for their name… sigh…… Across the boards The Swedish Housewife vote is in: Production Values 10, Costuming 10, Quality of Performances 10!
This is REALLY the Hottest Show in Town !GO SEE IT !!!!!!!!!!

Friday night I went to see Dina Martina’s “Cherished Chestnuts” at Re Bar now extended till April 25th and there is a reason why. I was God Smacked, Dumfounded and have sore stomach muscles from this romp down memory lane of the demented and brilliant mind of Grady West, who is currently up for the GLAAD Award- OUTSTANDING NEW YORK THEATER: OFF OFF BROADWAY and in very good company I would like to add, Joey Arias and Basil Twist for Aria’s with a Twist” Justin Bond (who I am bringing to Seattle March 29 to The Triple Door) for Lustre a Midwinter Trans-Fest , Dina Martina: Off the Charts!. I am only mentioning these three nominees as I have worked with all of them!!!

After the show I had a quick Ethiopian dinner at Habesha right around the corner from Re-Bar and it is YUMMY!!!!! Go there the food is great, the ambiance is nice, I liked the music, the crowd was sassy, only odd thing was trying to discourage the waiter from putting the cork back into the bottle after it was opened, maybe it’s a cultural thing?

Back to ACT I went for my evening fill of fanastico! I caught the end of the show and once again Fabulous!!! Fuchsia FOXXX Hotness, Ben De La Creme dishing out old school Burlesque as “Eve” and her temptations, The Heavenly Spies in a fantastic dance act with Ultra, and Boy Oh Boy !!!is it nice to see Bell Cozette on stage again!!!

There are only two more burlesque shows left in this season of the Moisture Festival so beat it on down to ACT at 7th and Union and get yourself a seat for the Hottest Show in town!!!!!
